CBD is the cannabinoid most people meet first. It is non-intoxicating, it is sold in every format from oils and gummies to creams and capsules, and it is the category where product quality varies the most from brand to brand. This hub pulls together every CBD product we have bought and written up, the buying guides worth reading before you spend anything, and the picks we would order again.

What Is CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is one of the two cannabinoids hemp produces in real quantity. Unlike delta-9 THC it is non-intoxicating, which is why it sits on shelves in formats aimed at daytime use. Hemp-derived CBD became federally legal in the United States when the 2018 Farm Bill set the line at 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight.
In practice the label matters more than the cannabinoid. A 3000mg bottle is not automatically stronger per serving than a 1000mg bottle — it depends on bottle size and dropper volume — and a gummy that lists 25mg per piece tells you nothing about what else is in it. Every product on this page has a batch certificate of analysis we could actually open, and we say so when one is hard to find.

How to Choose a CBD Product
Start with the format, not the milligrams. Oil under the tongue is the most adjustable option because you control the dropper. Gummies and capsules trade that flexibility for a fixed, repeatable serving. Creams stay where you put them and are not absorbed into the bloodstream the way an edible is.
Work out the cost per milligram. Divide the price by the total CBD in the package. A $39 bottle holding 3000mg works out near a penny per milligram; a $125 bottle holding 1000mg is more than ten times that. Both can be worth buying, but only one of them is a value pick.
Check the spectrum against your situation. Full spectrum keeps trace THC, which matters if you are drug tested. Broad spectrum and isolate remove it.
Open the COA before you order. A current batch report should list cannabinoid content plus pesticide, solvent and heavy metal screens. If a brand only publishes a certificate from two years ago, that tells you something. Our guide to reading a COA explains what to look for.

Legality and Shipping
Hemp-derived CBD containing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC is federally legal in the United States, and every brand we link to ships CBD nationwide. The exceptions are the products that sit next to CBD on the same brand sites: smokable hemp flower is restricted in a number of states, and hemp delta-8 is not shipped to Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah or Vermont. FOCL does not ship its THC gummies to Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Minnesota, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont or Washington. All of these brands require you to be 21 or older.
CBD FAQ
Will CBD show up on a drug test?
Full spectrum CBD contains trace delta-9 THC (under 0.3% by dry weight), and standard urine screens look for THC metabolites. If you are tested at work, a broad spectrum or isolate product is the lower-risk choice, though no product can guarantee a negative result.
How much CBD should I take?
Most tinctures are dosed by the dropper, and most gummies land between 10mg and 50mg per piece. Start at the low end of the label, keep it consistent for several days, and adjust from there. Our dosage guide walks through the math per milliliter.
What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate?
Full spectrum keeps the plant’s other cannabinoids and terpenes including trace THC, broad spectrum keeps the supporting compounds but removes THC, and isolate is CBD on its own. Full spectrum products tend to taste more like hemp.
How long does CBD take to work?
Oil held under the tongue is usually noticeable faster than an edible because it partly bypasses digestion. Gummies and capsules typically take 45 to 120 minutes depending on what else you have eaten.
Is CBD legal in all 50 states?
Hemp-derived CBD under 0.3% delta-9 THC is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, but individual states still regulate smokable hemp flower and some THC-containing formats differently. Check your own state rules before ordering.
Does CBD oil expire?
Yes. Most tinctures carry a one to two year shelf life from the bottling date and keep best away from heat and direct light. Our storage guide covers gummies and tinctures in more detail.
