Best CBD Dog Treats 2026: Six Brands Compared
CBD dog treats are the easiest way to give a dog CBD: no dropper, no measuring, just a chew. But they vary a lot. We found treats with 5 mg of CBD and treats with 20 mg, THC-free isolate and full-spectrum extract with trace THC, and prices from about 64 cents to $1.33 a treat.
Our short version: Medterra makes the best THC-free chews and the strongest joint formula, CBDfx has the most CBD per treat, Lazarus Naturals is the best value, and Koi's 5 mg biscuits are easiest to dose for small dogs. Below we compare all six, explain what the research on CBD for dogs actually found, and cover dosing and safety.
Our Picks at a Glance
Medterra Pet CBD Calming & Joint Support Chews
10 mg of CBD isolate per chew, labeled THC-free. The Joint Support version adds 400 mg glucosamine, 300 mg chondroitin and 200 mg MSM. $29.99 or $34.99 for 30.
CBDfx CBD Dog Treats
20 mg of broad-spectrum CBD per treat, vegan, in Calming, Hip & Joint and Skin Health formulas. $39.99 for 30, listed down from $49.99.
Lazarus Naturals CBD Dog Chews
10 mg of full-spectrum CBD per chew for $22 a bag of 30, about 73 cents a chew. Calming, Joint Support and Digestive Health versions, rated 4.7 to 4.8 stars on Lazarus's site.
Koi CBD Dog Biscuits
5 mg of full-spectrum CBD per biscuit, dosed at one biscuit per 10 lbs, so small dogs get a whole treat rather than a crumb. $29.99 for 30. Every biscuit flavor showed as unavailable on Koi’s site on October 26, 2026, while its calming soft chews were in stock.
Side-by-Side Comparison
One-time prices on each brand's site on October 25, 2026. "Per treat" is the bag price divided by the count.

| Soul Calm and Relief CBD Dog Treats | 5 mg | Labeled zero THC | $20 a bag (count not listed) | n/a | Calm: chamomile, passion flower, valerian, St. John's wort; Relief: glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin, turmeric |
Per dollar, CBDfx (15 mg of CBD per dollar) and Lazarus (about 14 mg) give the most CBD, Medterra about 10 mg, and the 5 mg treats the least. That matters because, as the research section below shows, the doses used in studies were higher than most treat labels suggest.
1. Medterra Pet CBD Chews: Best THC-Free Pick
MCR Score: 8.7/10. Medterra's soft chews use CBD isolate and are labeled THC-free, which makes them the simplest choice if you want no THC in the house at all. Each 4 g chew has 10 mg of CBD. The Calming Chews add chamomile, valerian root, passionflower, L-tryptophan, L-theanine and ginger; the Joint Support Chews add 400 mg of glucosamine, 300 mg of chondroitin and 200 mg of MSM, the most complete joint formula in this guide. Medterra labels both for dogs and cats.
The Calming Chews are $29.99 for 30 (4.3 stars from 264 reviews on Medterra's site) and the Joint Support Chews $34.99 (4.6 stars from 175). Medterra's chart starts at half a chew a day for pets under 10 lbs and scales up by weight, and it offers a 30-day refund. The glucosamine comes from shellfish, so skip the joint chews if your dog has a shellfish allergy. Read our Medterra review.
2. CBDfx CBD Dog Treats: Most CBD per Treat
MCR Score: 8.5/10. CBDfx puts 20 mg of broad-spectrum CBD in each treat, double Medterra and Lazarus and four times Koi, and says the treats test non-detect for THC. They are vegan, made with organic hemp and come as hard or soft chews in three formulas: Calming (chamomile, passion flower, tryptophan, ginger, valerian and ashwagandha; the soft chews also contain 1 mg of melatonin), Hip & Joint (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and yucca) and Skin Health (omega-3 from flax and chia, plus biotin).
A 30-treat jar is $39.99, listed down from $49.99. CBDfx's chart is half a treat for dogs up to 25 lbs, one for 26 to 50 lbs, two for 51 to 100 lbs and three above that. The high strength is the point: for larger dogs, fewer treats get closer to the doses used in research. See also our CBDfx CBD oil for dogs review.
3. Lazarus Naturals CBD Dog Chews: Best Value
MCR Score: 8.4/10. Lazarus sells 30 chews for $22, about 73 cents each, with 10 mg of full-spectrum CBD per chew. Lazarus lists about 0.25 mg of THC per chew, which is not intoxicating at that amount but is not zero. There are three versions: Calming Support (peanut butter, with L-theanine and L-tryptophan, 4.7 stars from 171 reviews), Joint Support (salmon, with glucosamine and hydrolyzed fish collagen, 4.8 stars from 140) and Digestive Health (pumpkin, with pumpkin powder and inulin).
Lazarus's Assistance Program takes up to 60% off for veterans, people on long-term disability and low-income households, which makes these the cheapest CBD treats here for anyone who qualifies. Read our Lazarus Naturals review.
4. Koi CBD Dog Biscuits: Best for Small Dogs
MCR Score: 8.0/10. Koi's veterinarian-formulated biscuits carry 5 mg of full-spectrum CBD each, 150 mg per bag of 30 for $29.99. Koi's dosing is the clearest in this guide: one biscuit per 10 lbs of body weight, no more than one serving every 6 to 8 hours. That low strength suits small dogs, which can have a whole biscuit instead of a broken piece of a stronger treat.
There are three flavors: Calming Support (green apple and peanut butter, with chamomile and L-theanine), Immune Support (blueberry and sweet potato, with flaxseed) and Joint Support (pumpkin spice and cinnamon). The Joint Support ingredient list shows no glucosamine or other joint ingredients beyond the hemp extract, so if joints are your main concern, Medterra or CBDfx is the better buy. See our Koi CBD for dogs review.
Stock note, October 26, 2026: every Koi dog biscuit flavor showed as unavailable on Koi’s site; its calming soft chews were in stock.
5. CBD American Shaman CBD Chews for Dogs: Biggest Bag
MCR Score: 7.8/10. American Shaman's chews come 70 to a bag for $44.99, about 64 cents each, with 5 mg of nano full-spectrum CBD per chew in peanut butter, turkey stuffing or beef brisket flavors. The suggested serving is half a chew per 25 lbs, once or twice a day. American Shaman says the chews contain minimal THC and will not intoxicate.
When we checked, its pet page was also selling a limited batch of the same chews at 50% off for $22.49, with a note that the deal ends when that batch sells out. American Shaman offers refunds within 45 days. Read our CBD American Shaman review.
6. Soul Calm and Relief CBD Dog Treats: THC-Free and Low-Dose
MCR Score: 7.5/10. Soul's treats have 5 mg of organically grown CBD each and are labeled zero THC. Calm (bacon flavor) adds chamomile, passion flower, valerian root and St. John's wort; Relief (chicken flavor) adds glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin and turmeric. Each bag is $20, but we could not find the treat count on Soul's product page, which makes the value hard to judge.
St. John's wort can interact with medications, so check with your vet before giving the Calm treats to a dog on any prescription. Read our Soul CBD review.
What the Research on CBD for Dogs Shows
Joint pain: the best-known study (Gamble and colleagues at Cornell, Frontiers in Veterinary Science, 2018) gave 16 dogs with osteoarthritis 2 mg of CBD per kg of body weight twice a day for four weeks, in a placebo-controlled crossover. Owner-rated pain scores fell and activity scores rose on CBD but not on placebo. Alkaline phosphatase, a liver enzyme, rose in 9 of the 16 dogs, and the authors suggested monitoring it. The study was small and funded by ElleVet, a pet CBD company.
Stress: a 2023 placebo-controlled study from Mars Petcare's Waltham institute gave 40 dogs a single 4 mg/kg dose of broad-spectrum CBD two hours before being left alone or taken on a car ride. Dogs on CBD showed fewer stress behaviors, and on the car ride had lower cortisol. But a 2020 University of Kentucky study found that about 1.4 mg/kg a day of CBD, given in treats for a week, did not reduce dogs' fear response to a fireworks recording; trazodone, a prescription drug, did lower cortisol.
What that means for treats: the positive studies used 2 to 4 mg of CBD per kg. For a 44 lb (20 kg) dog, 2 mg/kg is 40 mg per dose, which is four 10 mg chews or eight 5 mg biscuits. Most treat labels suggest less than that, and the study that used a treat-like dose found no effect on fear. CBD is not FDA-approved for animals in any form: the FDA has not approved, conditionally approved or indexed any animal drug containing CBD. Treat a CBD chew as a supplement, and talk to your vet before raising the dose.
Is CBD Safe for Dogs?
- Use pet products, never human THC edibles. THC is toxic to dogs. The ASPCA lists depression, loss of coordination, dilated pupils, a slow heart rate, low body temperature and urinary incontinence as signs, and its poison control center has seen calls rise sharply as more states have legalized marijuana. Call your vet or an animal poison line if your dog eats a THC product.
- Watch the liver. CBD raised a liver enzyme in the Cornell study. If your dog will take CBD long term, ask your vet about bloodwork.
- Check medications. CBD and some botanicals (including St. John's wort and, in CBDfx's soft chews, melatonin) can interact with medicines your dog already takes.
- Start low and change one thing at a time. Give the label's lowest serving for a week before adjusting, and do not start a CBD treat on the same day as a new food or medicine.
- Allergies. Medterra's Joint Support Chews and Soul's Relief treats use shellfish-derived glucosamine, and Lazarus's joint chews contain fish collagen.
The Federal THC Change and Dog Treats
Full-spectrum treats may be affected after December 11
Under the federal hemp rewrite, hemp products with more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container lose hemp status, and most of that change takes effect on December 11, 2026. A bag of full-spectrum chews can pass that: Lazarus lists about 0.25 mg of THC per chew, roughly 7.5 mg per bag of 30. Medterra, CBDfx and Soul label their dog treats THC-free or non-detect.
How the limit will be applied to pet products has not been spelled out, so if you rely on a full-spectrum treat, check the brand's site before you reorder. Follow our federal hemp deadline tracker for updates.
More Options: Organic CBD and CBD-Free Chews
Three more products we checked on October 26, 2026, for owners who want a gentler dose, an organic brand, or no CBD at all.
Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats
2 mg of THC-free CBD per chew, 30 chews (60 mg) for $34.95. A very low dose, so best for small dogs or owners starting slowly; it costs far more per milligram than the six above. See our Joy Organics review.
Happy Paws Calming Chews
A CBD-free calming chew with chamomile, passion flower, valerian root, L-theanine and tryptophan. Vegan, $34.99, or 25% off on subscription.
Happy Paws Hip & Joint Chews
Glucosamine and chondroitin in a daily chew for senior or active dogs, $34.99. A non-CBD alternative to the joint formulas above.

How to Choose a CBD Dog Treat
- Decide on THC first. For no THC at all, choose Medterra (isolate), CBDfx (broad spectrum, non-detect) or Soul. Lazarus, Koi and American Shaman use full-spectrum extract with trace THC.
- Match strength to size. 5 mg treats (Koi, American Shaman, Soul) are easier to dose for small dogs; 20 mg CBDfx treats suit large dogs.
- Look for real extras. For joints, look for glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM on the label (Medterra Joint, CBDfx Hip & Joint, Soul Relief, Lazarus Joint). A treat called "joint support" may not contain them.
- Compare cost per milligram, not per bag. A cheap bag of 5 mg treats can cost more per milligram of CBD than a pricier bag of 20 mg treats.
- Ask for the lab report. Look up the certificate of analysis for your batch and check that it matches the CBD and THC on the label.
CBD Dog Treats FAQ
How many CBD treats can I give my dog?
Follow the treat's own chart, which is based on weight: for example, one Koi biscuit per 10 lbs, or half a CBDfx treat for dogs up to 25 lbs. Start at the lowest serving and ask your vet before going higher.
Do CBD dog treats work for anxiety?
The evidence is mixed. One 2023 study found a single 4 mg/kg dose reduced stress during car rides and separation, while a 2020 study found about 1.4 mg/kg a day did not reduce fear of fireworks noise. Effects likely depend on the dose and the situation.
Are CBD dog treats better than CBD oil?
Treats are easier to give and dose in fixed steps; oil lets you adjust the dose precisely and usually costs less per milligram. See our best CBD for dogs guide for oils.
Can cats have CBD dog treats?
Only if the product says so. Medterra labels its chews for dogs and cats; the others here are made for dogs. Cats are smaller, so dosing errors matter more.
How long does a CBD treat take to work?
It varies. In the 2023 stress study, dogs were given CBD two hours before the stressful event, so give a calming treat well ahead of a car ride or storm rather than at the last minute.
